Electric Lotus sports car teased ahead of 2026 release

2026 seems far away right? Well that hasn’t stopped the manufacturer of fun and lightweight sports cars; Lotus from presenting the world with a teaser of their novel electric range of vehicles which is set to launch over the coming years. This includes the electric Lotus sports car ahead of its release

Electric Lotus sports car sketch

A free handed sketch taking us into the future vision of Lotus.

In a few months time, Lotus will be taking the covers off its first-ever SUV known by the “Type 132” codename. This will continue to signal the transition for the British automaker into green mobility. Thereafter a series of other models will be released until the “Type 135”, poised to arrive in 2026 as an electric Lotus sports car is unveiled. Before that far away date, we can expect the “Type 133”, a four-door coupe as well as a small crossover with the codename “Type 134”.

That is the topic of today’s conversation and despite it being an electric derivative of the lightweight sports car that Lotus has mastered over their many decades in existence, it should by definition of its teased layout retain the same dynamism that has become synonymous with the brand.

In a rendered video of the newly developed architecture; the model is set to be positioned below the Evija hypercar in single and dual motor options. Potentially carrying the bulk of the powertrain weight behind the seats comparable to that of a mid-engined sports car, the varying configurations could output between 350 and 650 kW respectively.

The Type 135 will slot in beneath this, the Evija.

A loose sketch accompanying this information alludes to a two-seater with a swooping roofline and diminutive greenhouse but part of the new electric architecture allows for heavy configuration. This includes a two-seater, long-wheelbase two-seater and a 2+2 layout all utilising a battery with the maximum output of 66.4kWh.

The last fossil fuel powered model from Hethel, the V6 Emira.

While Type 132 all the way through to Type 134 will be produced in the now infamous Wuhan, the 135 will be assembled in Lotus’ home base of Hethel. For now, the Emira V6 remains within their arsenal as the last Lotus powered by fossil fuels.
