Alfa Romeo C42 livery finally revealed after Barcelona tests
Two launches in a month isn’t something that Alfa Romeo frequently do but while some of us might get to grips with their former reveal; the Tonale, only select talents will get to experience their latter. In a typical case of ‘the best was saved for last’ say hello to the Alfa Romeo C42 F1 challenger.
The pre-season track running which was held last week in Barcelona saw the Swiss team adorned with the name of the historic Italian automaker experiencing misfortune while the Alfa Romeo C42 was confined to the inside of the pit garage. Finishing ninth out of 10 teams in the mileage charts, the new 2022-spec car only managed a meagre 175 laps between all drivers.
While the Alfa Romeo C42 may not have performed as hoped by team boss Frédéric Vasseur, he remains optimistic and insists that the testing session provided valuable insights which were crucial to learn before the racing officially gets underway.
While testing may not have gone to plan, their livery reveal did and provided Formula 1 Fans with one of the most striking designs to ever embody a racecar. After contending the sport for 30 years, the design direction of the livery was “a subtle nod to the past, recalling historical designs of years past and the heritage of Alfa Romeo and Sauber Motorsport”. This is also evident with the antique Alfa Romeo logo that flanks each side of the fuselage.
Reserve driver Robert Kubica and his financial backing in Polish oil refiner and petrol retailer Orlen are the dominant sponsors on the front wing, rear wing and fuselage. The Alfa Romeo C42 has also incorporated their red and white colour scheme onto the new 18-inch wheel covers which is one of the more creative executions of the updated regulations.
The team which has struggled to make headway in the past few seasons also hopes that their interpretation of the new regulations will bring the team into contention for points once again after Vasseur added “we have the utmost confidence in this car helping the team make a big step forward towards the front of the grid.”
The next stop for the travelling circus will be in Bahrain between the 10th and 12th of March where all teams and drivers will conduct the official pre-season test after their initial shakedown in Spain.
