Audi’s “Night of Progress” launches six e-tron models to SA

In an electrifying display, Audi South Africa hosted its “Night of Progress” event last week that saw six new e-tron models unveiled and launched for the South African market.

The event, held at the Zeitz MOCAA contemporary art museum, hosted 170 guests who were able to witness a grand ceremony showcasing the latest fully-electric e-tron models. In attendance were many industry players, influencers, media houses, and a few other key individuals. The luxurious RS e-tron GT was test-driven for the first time by celebrities, the media, and VIPs.

Globally, the fully electric range has had great success. The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer saw a 58% increase in its electric car deliveries in 2021. Audi has sold more than 52 000 e-tron units worldwide which, according to an Audi press release, accounts for two-thirds of its overall EV sales. The electric vehicle portfolio appears to have doubled in size over the past year.

Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa, highlighted that the event was a momentous occasion for Audi, as well as for South Africa. “By accelerating our transition towards e-mobility, we are fully embracing Audi’s global mission in transforming towards being a provider of premium sustainable mobility and in line with our Brand’s global commitments towards the Paris Climate Agreement.” 

It’s been confirmed that Audi South Africa will partner with electric vehicle charging infrastructure supplier, GridCars. The South African-based company will aid Audi in creating “the largest and fastest electric vehicle public charging network in the country.” GridCars has previously partnered with German auto manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz for their EQ range, as well as Jaguar Land Rover for the I-Pace and Range-Rover PHEV models.

The Audi e-tron lineup is as follows;

e-tron 55 First edition: R1 745 000
e-tron 55 Advanced: R1 990 000
e-tron 55 S line: R2 045 000
e-tron 55 Sportback S line: R2 115 000
e-tron Sportback: R2 425 000
e-tron GT: R2 715 000
RS e-tron GT: R3 300 000

The e-tron models will be supported by a five-year/ 100 000 km Audi Freeway Maintenance plan, as well a an eight-year/ 160 000km battery warranty.
