Suzuki adds mid-spec Jimny GL and Rhino Edition Kit to lineup

Local Suzuki dealerships now feature the updated Jimny GL – the mid-range specification level of the inimitable little off-roader.

With the intention of bringing many of the range topping GLX’s must-have luxuries to a wider audience, the GL slots into the Jimny range just above the rough-and-ready GA model and brings with it the option of an automatic transmission.

Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa said, “No one, our team included, could have predicted the success of the Jimny in South Africa and across the globe.

“As a fully off-road capable SUV, it is as comfortable in the inner city as it is on the dunes of the Namib. And at a starting price of only R336 900 for the GL manual and R357 900 for the GL auto, it will the dreams of adventure a reality for thousands of people,”

Carpenter has further noted that despite sales of both GA and GLX models having far exceeded initial supply, many customers have expressed that they would appreciate a few more amenities than what the GA provides, albeit without having to stretch their budgets to the GLX’s level, in particular, those looking for an automatic Jimny.

In response to this customer feedback, Suzuki South Africa in partnership with Suzuki’s Japanese Head Office and the Jimny’s manufacturing facility has created the GL range. With its hardened off-road smokey chrome alloy wheels, full-size spare wheel and the flagship’s front fog lights and squared-off front bumper, the GL looks the part from the outside. As for paint finishes, the GL can be finished in all body colours, including the two-tone paint option where the roof is finished in a contrasting colour to the rest of the body.

In the cabin is where the majority of changes can be spotted – either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission is available, as well as air conditioning and power steering fitted as standard. Additionally, GL models receive electric windows, electrically adjustable mirrors and a Suzuki audio system with Bluetooth, USB connectivity and steering wheel controls. As the cherry to top off this impressive package, a 50:50 split rear bench comes as standard, too.

“We believe that the Jimny GL is the complete answer to the question from interested customers who love the Jimny and its promise of adventure, but who do not need all the luxuries and accompanying higher price of the GLX model,” concludes Carpenter.

Pricing:
Suzuki Jimny GL Manual: R336 900
Suzuki Jimny GL Automatic: R357 900

Both Suzuki Jimny GL models come standard with a comprehensive 4-year / 60 000 km service plan.

Rhino Edition Kit
In addition to the Jimny GL, the special Rhino Edition Kits will land in dealerships at the same time as the GL models. Resurrecting the well-know Jimny Rhino logomark first seen on the SJ-series Jimny 40 years ago, the logo has become synonymous with the Jimny’s go-anywhere, plucky nature.

The Rhino Edition Kit adds:

  • Exclusive Rhino decals
  • A Rhino-branded soft spare wheel cover
  • The Suzuki Heritage grille
  • Red Suzuki mud flaps
  • Rain and wind deflectors

Suzuki Auto South Africa will also partner with its global parent company and affiliates across the world in support of rhino conservation in South Africa and across the African continent.
