WATCH: BMW teases latest M2 in sultry video ahead of launch

It has been a busy month for BMW’s M Division. Not only are they celebrating 50 years in the game but the iconic CSL nameplate was revived for the potent M4. That hasn’t stopped them from sharing the latest M2 in a sultry teaser video ahead of its unconfirmed debut.Latest M2

This teaser showcases their compact sports coupe which can be argued as the definitive BMW sportscar; small, nimble and powerful. The latest M2 may not feature in clear view for more than a frame at a time but the Bavarian automaker have made a statement about their new model and by the looks of things, “get ready for playtime” means that it should be joining us soon.

Although not too soon, we can speculate that the brand will want the excitement of the M4 CSL to subside before releasing another fan-favourite and performance crazed model. No official launch date has been given although production will begin towards the end of the year at the San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico. To meet the demand, BMW is hiring an additional 800 employees to start a second production shift at the location.

The sultry teaser of the latest M2 shows brief glimpses of the sports coupe which includes its badge and headlights in some nighttime driving clips with motion blurs streaking across the screen to insinuate its potential speed capabilities. Most rumours allude to the fact that BMW will employ the S58 3,0-litre motor under the hood, the same of which features in the M3 and M4. It will reportedly make around 335 kW which will drive the rear wheels of the M2 though.

In addition to the latest M2, the frantic M division are also working on the M3 Touring which we can expect to debut fairly soon as well, as soon as June according to reports. Potentially the busiest sports division of an automotive brand at the moment? We think so.
