The first McLaren P1 Spider by Lanzante will be delivered by the end of the year with the remaining four production iterations coming shortly thereafter.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has provided us with much eye-candy over the past few days but this one is a little bit different. Believe it or not but the seductively styled Woking hypercar originally debuted just under 9 years ago so you may find it hard to believe that it is only receiving a drop top version now, seven years after production ceased in December 2015.

That is because British automotive company Lanzante Limited, who services in the restoration and servicing of classic vehicles has decided to take it upon themselves to create the McLaren P1 Spider. Don’t be fooled though, this project is as thorough as it gets considering Paul Howse; creator of the original (as well as many other remarkable automotive creations), worked in conjunction with the engineering firm.

That means that the five bespoke models created will look as if they rolled off of the production line at the Woking facility and since owners are required to entrust a donor car to Lanzante, we expect a high level of attention to detail. Changes include a strengthened chassis which help with structural integrity while carbon fibre buttresses incorporate the new air intakes since the original had a roof scoop instead, which no longer applies to the McLaren P1 Spider.

The glass roof panels have been replaced by a removable cover which can be removed at the owner’s discretion, plan your routes in accordance with the weather since there is nowhere to store the panel within the car itself. The entire design retains the flowing lines from before although the aero buttreses behind the seats look rather menacing and considering they feed air into a pair of turbochargers, they are functional too.

The interior has new leather upholstery and SuperFabric now lines some of the cabin, this was done since the material is more weather and UV resistant for when the top is down. See more of the model here.

The original P1 was good for 674 kW and 900 N.m from its 3,8-litre V8 which meant that it could hit 100 km/h from standstill in 2,8 seconds and flatout could achieve 350 km/h. The new Lanzante McLaren P1 Spider may be a bit heavier so we doubt its performance specs will be more impressive than the original but does it really matter when it looks this good?
