This weekend, the paddock will return to the Hungaroring for the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix. A track that provided a wet weather spectacle to viewers in 2021 where a first corner incident saw the retirement of several cars. Drivers may have to contend with the elements once again as the weekend forecast for the town of Mogyoród, where the Hungaroring is found, has a high chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday.

Regardless of any opening lap incidents that hindered Max Verstappen with a severely damaged car and relegated him to ninth position the last time out, the Dutchman will go into the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix with less pressure and retains a comfortable lead of 63 points over Charles Leclerc. This after the Monegasque driver threw away the win after crashing out from the lead in France.
Despite this, the F1-75 appears to be the faster car in qualifying and race trim at the moment, although not by a significant amount over its RB18 rival. For the first time this season, the significantly improved performance of the W13 is the most notable news coming out of France after a double podium was celebrated by its British drivers. This came after George Russell strategically pipped Sergio Perez at the Virtual Safety Car restart to clinch the final podium place behind teammate Lewis Hamilton who was only 10 seconds further down the road to Verstappen.
Considering an oddball win last year, Esteban Ocon will want to relive the triumph of victory at the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix although despite both finishing in the points at the Alpine teams’ home race, it would take another stroke of luck to make this happen. In their recent consistency, the French team has managed to overtake McLaren in the Constructors championship to take fourth position but they find themselves a long way behind third-placed Mercedes who have almost triple the amount of points so far.
Other news in the paddock is the news that four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel will be retiring at the end of the 2022 season after the 35 year old German driver stated: “At the end of the year I want to take some more time to reflect on what I will focus on next; it is very clear to me that, being a father, I want to spend more time with my family.” Watch the Aston Martin driver pilot a 100 year old Aston Martin Grand Prix car around the Circuit Paul Ricard here.
