Honda releases OEM goodies galore for the new 2023 Type R

Hot off of its global release, the new 2023 Type R has already been shown sporting some OEM goodies. Buyers can now equip their FWD Honda hot hatch with a carbon wing and plenty of red details.

Courtesy of Honda Access Japan, Honda’s genuine accessory programme; buyers of the 2023 Type R can now spec their hot hatch with some visual and performance orientated goodies. This includes a carbon fibre rear wing which is 1 kg lighter than standard. On the cosmetic side of things are red add-ons which include mirror caps and Honda badges all around the car – these can accentuate the sizable brake calipers painted in the same colour.

On the inside is much the same with more red and more carbon fibre. The standard centre console has now been replaced with one finished in carbon fibre while the gear knob mounted within is fashioned out of anodized aluminium. To match the bold, red interior, buyers can opt to finish the gear leather to be finished in the same bright hue.

There are other miscellaneous components that can be installed which include LED ambient lighting, a Euro-spec hooter, paint protection film, and a wireless charging pad.

With these OEM goodies on the new 2023 Type R, it still remains considerably more reserved than the standard FK8 generation from before adorned with fake vents fore and aft and intricate exterior appearance. The newcomer is decisively more refined and targeted at adults with a childish streak rather than the other way around with its extravagant design.

That being said, the high aftermarket customizability of the fabled FWD hot hatch mean that any prospective buyers wanting a more flashy 2023 Type R will have to wait for the likes of Mugen, or another tuner for that matter, to bring the spectacular model to life.
