A core ideology to the expedition is ‘using adventure to improve and save lives.’

As part of this herculean overlanding odyssey across continents and countries, the Kingsley Holgate expedition has now reached the most northern extremity of Europe. This comes after the group of travellers began their 30 000 km journey at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the African continent; a journey known as “Hot Cape To Cold Cape.” With the planned route being deviated from slightly, the expedition travelled a total of 35 000 km to arrive at the end destination.

The adventure which has spanned 30 countries commenced in October 2021 which means the expedition team has put the Land Rover Defenders through the harshest terrain and conditions in the process of scaling mountain passes, desert heat and dense forested sections.

In a bid to improve environmental conservation, this Kingsley Holgate expedition is also carbon neutral. The 3 expedition Defenders’ carbon footprint has been offset by the planting of 6 000 Albany Thicket indigenous trees and shrubs in the Eastern Cape in partnership with the Conservation Landscapes Institute, Rhodes University and the Tanglewood Foundation.

To celebrate the Kingsley Holgate expedition arrival at Nordkapp, 71 degrees north, a Land Rover North America film crew and cast documented to symbolic process of Southern African sea water being poured from a Zulu Calabash and a small isivivane built from pebbles carried from Cape Agulhas.
