So what does it mean if it is not FIA-homologated? Simply put, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 won’t be able to compete in sanctioned FIA racing series or events but the five owners of this limited run model will receive their money’s worth in terms of performance and upgrades.

The first of which starts under the bonnet, with the 6,3-litre V8 under the bonnet pushing out 73 kW more than before and taking total ratings all the way up to 478 kW. In addition, the restrictive exhaust components like the silencer have been removed making the model bearing the three-pointed star on its bonnet sing an even more brutish tune.

On the outside, no restrictions on aerodynamics and weight mean that it comes with a massive rear wing, splitters, canards and that aforementioned exhaust exiting beneath the door sills – similar running gear to the existing GT3 Evo car. The cabin is also far from a standard Mercedes-AMG since it comes with the latest data display unit (DDU) supplied by Bosch which includes a high-resolution screen that displays technical information for the driver.

Of course, celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Mercedes-AMG division, there are also many stylistic ques around the car that signify the illustrious history of its maker. Remaining on the interior, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 includes exclusive touches which include seat embroidery and a plaque stating “Edition 55 – 1 of 5.”

The exterior continues the theme with a red and black livery boasting the Affalterbach logo placed on the sides. In addition to the R10,5 million price tag, the five buyers will also receive a tailor-made car cover and an Edition 55 box from IWC Schaffhausen, holding within a Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG.”
