De Tomaso’s P900 is an F1 car in hypercar drag

A sultry and unbelievably lightweight physique harbouring a bespoke 12-cylinder power plant with a redline of 12 300 r/min. De Tomaso’s P900 is a track-only hypercar with an asking price as audacious as the car it’s attached to!

It seems as if exclusivity and hypercars go hand-in-hand, and the De Tomaso P900 is no different. Only 18 examples of this otherworldly hypercar will be produced and come with an asking price of around R50 million. Accompanying an eight-figure price tag is a bespoke V12 weighing 220 kg with a redline of 12 300 r/min! Adding to the already impressive aspects of this naturally aspirated power plant is that it runs solely on synthetic fuels.

“This venture into synthetic fuels represents our commitment to the pursuit of a zero-emissions mobility future without sacrificing the crucial element which we all hold so dear – the soul and symphony of an engine.” —Norman Choi, De Tomaso CEO

This outrageous 12-cylinder affords the track-only two-seater with a bountiful 662 kW which, when paired with a car constituted almost entirely of carbon fibre that has a dry weight of 900 kgs, makes for one serious weekend track weapon. Managing the sumptuous power — which is delivered to the rear wheels — is an Xtrac paddle shift gearbox. The hypercar birthing firm promises LMP-level performance making it a direct competitor to marvels such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro or Pagani Huarya R. Striking a perfect balance between form and function, the P900’s shapely figure is not only the product of rigorous wind tunnelling testing. Held to the same standard as your typical F1 car, the P900 is equipped with a medley of F1-derived technology. For example, curtailing the rear is a large active rear wing designed to mimic the DRS tech found in modern F1 cars.

At present, performance figures and other nitty-gritty details have only been shared with owners, with the public having to wait a little longer to fully feast on the inner workings of the De Tomaso P900. De Tomaso estimates that the development of the V12 bearing P900 might only see the light of day in 2024, but those with deep pockets and little patience can opt to have the car outfitted with an F1-derived V10.
