Hyundai debuts stylish second-generation Kona range
As with many automakers, Hyundai has debuted their second-generation Kona model which will sport an EV, hybrid, ICE and N Line derivative. The sized-up SUV will all wear the simple yet elegant futuristic styling shown here.
Debuting in 2018, Hyundai’s Kona SUV has garnered success and popularity with the buying public. The second-generation Kona looks at continuing the success of the South Korean brand with a fully comprehensive offering of powertrains.
Interestingly, the second-generation Kona was initially developed as an EV, with several other powertrains being adapted for the platform. This could mean that the automaker intends on the electrified model being the volume product for the global model range while the other options supplement the transition into electrification.
In comparison to the outgoing model, the second-generation Kona is also significantly larger in all dimensions. Its length now measures in at 4 355 mm, 150 mm more than before while its width has been enlarged by 25 mm which will undoubtedly add to its credentials of interior spaciousness and passenger comfort.

The renders here show the SUV wearing several different styling packages, which are determined by their powertrain options. Shown are the Kona, Kona Electric and Kona N Line. All share the same futuristic exterior silhouette and aesthetic with minor detail changes in the front facade noticeable from the handful of images released.
The electrified model sports a pixelated lower grille to better align it with the highly anticipated Ioniq EVs. The rear end seems to follow the same methodology for the silent model while the N Line and standard Kona feature a visually differentiated bumper.
The image displaying the concept of the interior includes dual 12,3-inch displays in an “uncluttered layout.” More details can be expected in 2023 when Hyundai officially unveil the model. Hyundai Automotive South Africa is yet to confirm if the second generation Kona will replace the outgoing models and which powertrain options will be available.
