In recent testing by ANCAP, Australasia’s independent safety bureau, the GWM Tank 300 HEV managed to achieve the maximum five-star safety rating. The Tank 300 HEV was tested and assessed for its ability to physically protect occupants and other road users in an accident through the suite of destructive crash tests, its ability to prevent or minimize the severity of a crash with another vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist and through the range of active collision avoidance performance tests.

The newcomer that is touted to take on the likes of the Jeep Wrangler and the Land Rover Defender achieved the following in the safety tests:

Adult Occupant Protection: 88%

Child Occupant Protection: 89%

Vulnerable Road User Protection: 81%

Safety Assist: 85%

“Normally, perceptions for such boxy 4x4s are more focused on the terrain performance. However, GWM’s TANK 300 can offer both performance and safety at the same time thanks to great engineering efforts put into the structure and tech level of this beast.” said Parker Shi, head of overseas division of GWM.

Built on GWM’s global off-road platform, the GWM Tank 300 has been designed to perform in all conditions with proven 4WD technology to take on challenging off-road adventures whilst in a cabin boasting with ultimate luxury and comfort.

“GWM’s TANK 300 is launched with a hybrid model to show that the commitment of GWM’s electrification strategy rollout is solid.” Parker added.

While the newcomer is now on sale in global regions in the Middle East, China, Australia and other key markets, South Africans will have to wait until the early stages of 2023 for the model to become available locally.
