Pristine E30 M3 and 190e EVO ii sold for R4,3 million a pop

The Mercedes 190e EVO II and the BMW E30 M3 are undoubtedly some of the most respected and admired automobiles to ever be built and building on a long-lasting rivalry between the two revered German automakers. However, despite how enticing and sultry these cars are, would you pay R4 million for one?R4 million

Neither car needs an introduction. However, for the sake of nostalgic trips back to the age of fossil-fuel-fed four-bangers bred for motorsport dominance, let’s indulge ourselves.

Starting with a Bavarian legend which is positioned as royalty amongst its automaker’s fleet, the 1988 E30 M3 is a sixteen-valve, four-cylinder, dubbed the S14, which would endow the powertrain with 143 kW @ 6750 r/min and 230 N.m @ 4750 r/min. Needless to say, its capable powerplant housed in a frame barely tipping the scales past 1 300 kg. After its unveiling, the E30 would go on to cement its nameplate as a marque of motoring excellence and usher in a new segment of performance for the automaker. From DTM to group B rally and even drifting, the M3 of yore has seen success in every facet of the motorsport world.

An exceptionally looked-after 1988 Zinnoberrot Red E30 M3 with only 13 000 km on it sold for around R4 million via Bring A Trailer. Would you buy an E30 M3 for R4 million?

Moving over to Stuttgart! 1990 saw the birth of Mercedes’ most prolific sedans in the firm’s entire history. Bearing a 2,5-litre Cosworth-built four-cylinder which afforded this race-ready sedan a power output of 173 kW. Ladened with racing heritage and pedigree at the centre of the EVO II’s DNA. DTM saw a spectacular legacy etched into the DTM’s 90’s hall of fame.

Similar to the E30 M3 sold on Bring A Trailer, this Mercedes 1988 190e EVO is a low mileage example – approximately 94 000 km – of the mystical nameplate sold for R4 million. Is it worth it?
