Honda’s 596 kW CR-V hybrid race car sounds like a Formula 1 car

Not too long ago, Honda announced that on the 28th of February, we’d see its new hybrid 596 kW race homologated CR-V. Alongside extreme aero elements, this hybrid racer sounds like an F1 car.

The Honda Performance Development wing of the Japanese firm has its hands full with the task of turning a docile family carrier into a high-revving, wide-bodied electrified racer. While the official unveiling is a stone’s throw away, details surrounding aspects like powertrain specs have been kept under tight wraps. The first drop of blood in the water was a post originating from Honda’s “From the Honda Garage” that only gave the reveal date and a claim that it possessed ludicrous amounts of power.

Photos revealed the inklings of exposed carbon fibre body panels, a large rear wing, a full roll cage and some impressive aero. In a teaser video released by Honda, the mysterious electrified passenger carrier was seen in a somewhat unobstructed view. The video offers a glimpse at a blue colour accentuated by orange fonts, the gutted interior housing only two racing seats and a trail of dust trailing the hybrid speedster. What was most bewildering was the exhaust note. Bellowing like a pure-blooded Formula 1 racer of yore, this hybrid CR-V race car can be seen blitzing down a long straight.

With the 2023 Civic Type R stealing the performance spotlight, the addition of another high-performance vehicle in Honda’s garage considering the amount of effort Honda is putting into EV production and development.
