The I7 M70 is the most powerful EV BMW has to offer
BMW continues to expand its selection of electrified M-badged models by introducing the most high-strung and high-performing electric the firm has ever produced. This is all you need to know about the 2023 BMW I7 M70 xDrive.
The I7 M70 xDrive debuts as the 7 series’ range-topper and features a slew of BMW M-specific adjustments the firm claims to aid in delivering a perfect balance between electric mobility and performance. The M70 M-badge is well deserved as the latest electric offering is much more than a skin-deep badge treatment and is afforded the title of the most powerful and fastest electric M-model the firm has to offer.

BMW have tinkered with the chassis, suspension components, powertrain architecture, and many more, but the most evident changes can be found on the car’s modified powertrain. The electric luxury sedan is powered by two electric motors that can be found on the front (190 kW) and rear (360 kW) axles.
As a result of the two electronically excised synchronous motors, the I7 M70 receives a power increase of 150 kW compared to the xDrive60 M Sport, and boasts a maximum torque figure of 1 015 N.m when in Sport mode and 1 100 N.m when operating in the M Launch Control setting or the M Sport Boost functions are activated. Additionally, the M70 subspecies has a claimed 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 3,7 seconds, which makes it a full second faster than the xDrive 60 M Sport model and trump the claimed figures of electric nameplates such as the Audi RS e-tron GT and the BMW I4 M50.
A fair bit of effort has gone into improving the range capabilities of the I7 M70. The electric four-coo sedan is gifted with improved energy recuperation capabilities by way of regenerative braking and heat pump technology. The I7 is also equipped with a high-density high-voltage battery affording the car 101,7 kWh of usable energy, which is more than competitors such s the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. The I7 M70’s range is rated between 488 to 560 km, which is a fair bit more than its stablemates and on par with higher-classed nameplates.

This is the most powerful and fastest electric car BMW has to offer, but does a heart increase in power and performance capability justify what may very well be a price tag that hovers in the range of R3 million?
