Toyota Vitz is now the cheapest Toyota in the market

The new Toyota Vitz has been introduced as Toyota’s most affordable offering in the South African market, replacing the outgoing Agya. Keen-eyed observers will notice the Vitz bears a striking resemblance to the Suzuki Celerio which is a result of a partnership between Toyota and Suzuki that has resulted in several models being badge-engineered.

Mechanically, the Vitz is identical to its Suzuki counterpart, powered by a 1,0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 49 kW of power and 89 N.m of torque. The base 1,0 and Xr models come with a five-speed manual gearbox, while an automated manual transmission is available in the Xr spec. The Vitz boasts a claimed top speed of 160 km/h and Toyota claims it will deliver excellent fuel efficiency, with a consumption rate of 4,4 L/100 km for manual models and 4,2 L/100 km for the automatic version.

One of the standout features of the Vitz is its attractive pricing, with the base model starting at R189 900, making it the cheapest Toyota in the market. This puts it in direct competition with the Agya, which starts at R206 000 for the manual and R222 100 for the automatic. This makes the Vitz a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers who are looking for a reliable and affordable Toyota option.

The Vitz also comes well-equipped, with features such as air conditioning, electric power steering, central locking, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. Higher-spec Xr models add additional features such as alloy wheels, fog lamps, and a rearview camera. In terms of performance and fuel efficiency, the Vitz and Agya are comparable, as they share the same engine and transmission options. However, the Vitz holds an edge in terms of pricing, making it a more cost-effective option for buyers on a budget.

The new Toyota Vitz offers an attractive package for buyers looking for an affordable Toyota option in the South African market. With its competitive pricing, comparable performance, and well-equipped features, it presents a strong challenge to its sibling, the Agya, and is poised to become a popular choice among budget-conscious buyers.
