Mitsubishi Pajero Sport gets Shogun treatment for more off-road capability

On display at Nampo in Bothaville, Mitsubishi has unveiled several off-road models for the local market including a heavily revised Pajero Sport with Shogun treatment. Here are the details on the factory-fitted off-roader.

Using the annual Nampo Harvest Day exhibition in Bothaville, Free State as a location for the unveiling. Mitsubishi has continued to demonstrate its off-roading lineup with a little bit more pedigree than normal – this includes the Pajero Sport which comes with a raft of upgrades which is titled Shogun.

The Japense firm has endowed the seven-seater with addition off-road ability. Aside from the cosmetic decals across the car, the sizable SUV is also kitted out with a black nudge bar, rock sliders, a snorkel, roof rack  and undercarriage protection to ensure the mechanical internals can work unscathed of the enviroment. Speaking of which, the Shogun Pajero Sport comes with Mitsubishi’s 2,4-litre MIVEC four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that offers 133kW and 430Nm. Aiding in off-road capability, the SUV is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all wheels with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system that includes selectable driving modes. This includes 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked), 4LLc (4WD Low rang with CD locked) which all ensure optimal engine output, transmission settings and braking for tackling challenging surfaces.

The suspension components have been replaced courtesy of Australian 4×4 experts RAW which sees the Pajero Sport come with improved ground clearance, improved off-road ability and greater passenger comfort when traversing rough terrain. As standard, the Pajero Sport offers drivers an approach angle of 30 degrees, departure angle of 24,2 degrees and a 23,1-degree ramp breakover angle – Shogun treatment increases all of this.

18-inch rims are wrapped in Dunlop A/T 265/60 all-terrain tyres while the Shogun package further includes door handle protection covers, a wind deflector kit and a rubber 4×4 carpet set.

“The special edition Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun is based on the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 4×4 and boasts a variety of additional equipment to improve its already exceptional off-road capability even further while adding a rugged touch to the modern Japanese design,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Jumping inside, the SUV includes black leather seats, a power slide and reclining function for the driver’s seats and power lumbar support while an eight-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system takes care of connectivity and functionality. With all modifications tested and approved by Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, the three-year/100 000km and five-year/90 000km service plan remains part of the offering.
