BMW’s Next-Gen X2 Teased With Illuminated Grilles

BMW’s Next-Gen X2 has been teased in a sultry video with illuminated grilles and it seems the Bavarian automaker has spared the crossover SUV the controversial gaping kidneys from some of its other stablemates. Have a look here.

BMW’s illuminated grilles seem to be making their way onto each new model the Bavarian automaker unveils. This time around the stylised kidney grille silhouette has been illuminated on the next-gen X2 teaser video that has just gone live. The video, collaboratively shared by Domagoj Dukec – head of BMW’s design department, on Instagram, showcases the X2 from various angles. Starting off with the side view, the X2 displays a coupe-like profile at the rear, featuring a sloping roofline and a more sharply angled rear hatch. A subtle static spoiler adds a finishing touch to the rear.

In the animation sequence, the vehicle then rotates to reveal its darkened front end, where the illuminated grille comes alive, followed by the headlight signature. Those who dislike the bold styling used for the kidney grille of certain other models will be relieved to know the next-gen X2 will likely receive wider kidneys rather than the controversial narrow and tall design. It features a shape similar to the current X1, resembling those found on the facelifted X6, albeit with slightly different proportions. The headlights sport C-shaped LED daytime running lights.

Underneath its refreshed exterior briefly displayed here, the next-generation X2 will ride on BMW’s FAAR platform, also utilized by the current X1. It’s expected that the range-topping M35i xDrive model will feature a 2,0-liter turbocharged engine producing around 230 kW. In addition to the conventionally powered lineup, BMW is also working on an all-electric iX2, scheduled to be assembled in Germany later this year alongside the iX1.
