Renault Introduces Renault Kardian Targeted at Emerging Markets

Renault has unveiled the Renault Kardian, a compact crossover designed for specific markets outside of Europe.

This new model rides on Renault’s modular platform and features a freshly developed 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed DCT. The Kardian is positioned above the Kwid and is considered the successor to the Renault Sandero. It will be manufactured entirely in Brazil as part of Renault’s global strategy through 2027. Built on a CMF platform, the Kardian is tailored to the South American market and is expected to be initially available in Brazil, with later expansion to Morocco. This model represents the first vehicle outside Europe to showcase Renault’s latest design language.

In terms of dimensions, the Kardian measures 4 119 mm in length, 2 025 mm in width and 1 595 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2 604 mm. The ground clearance stands at 209 mm. These measurements signify an 88 mm increase in overall length compared to the Sandero, with the width expanding by 23 mm and the height increasing by 96 mm. The design of the Kardian is characterized by distinctive split headlights, robust front and rear bumpers, and a prominent double-layer grille, in line with Renault’s design identity. The body has a more SUV-like appearance, featuring coupe-like elements and enhanced ground clearance due to the substantial cladding on the running boards and wheel arches.

The rear of the Kardian showcases C-shaped taillamps reminiscent of the Renault Kiger. Higher-end models offer additional features such as alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and chrome accents. Inside, the Kardian features an elegant dashboard with a drive mode selector, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a three-spoke steering wheel, maintaining the signature Renault SUV design elements. Depending on the trim level, the interior incorporates wood inlays along with piano black and faux brushed metal accents. Higher-end models will come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels.

Under the metal, the Kardian is powered by a newly developed 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a six-speed DCT automatic transmission. This engine generates 93 kW of power and 220 N.m of torque, and it is versatile, and capable of running on either petrol or ethanol.
