The Ékleipsis is a symphony of unique design elements and meticulous craftsmanship, ensuring that it stands as a captivating work of art on wheels. Scheduled to make its debut in sync with the actual total eclipse set to grace the Western hemisphere on the 14th of October 2023, this limited edition Black Badge Ghost is an awe-inspiring sight. Adorned with vivid bright orange accents, it beautifully mimics the distinctive corona outline of an eclipse.
Step inside the Ékleipsis, and you’re greeted by a wealth of opulent details. The focal point is an intricate dashboard artwork, featuring an astonishing 1 846 laser-etched “stars.” This remarkable piece of craftsmanship requires over 100 hours of painstaking work by a singular technician. A unique timepiece, inspired by the “diamond ring” effect of a solar eclipse, incorporates a 0,5-carat diamond into its bezel. The two-tone seats are also a visual delight, with over 200 000 perforations that reveal Mandarin accents beneath the rich black leather.
However, the pièce de résistance in the Ékleipsis is its Starlight headliner. As the doors close and the engine purrs to life, an enchanting animation unfolds. A circle of 940 radiant “stars” graces the headliner, simulating the corona of light that peeks around the moon during an eclipse. This animation lasts for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds, mirroring the duration of a total solar eclipse. After this magical interlude, the headliner reverts to its usual starry-sky effect, a feature familiar in all Rolls-Royce models.
The meticulous attention to detail extends from illuminated door sill plates to a concealed umbrella embellished with Mandarin piping, ensuring an aura of complete luxury. For its fortunate owners, the Ékleipsis comes with a unique indoor car cover, adding an extra layer of exclusivity.
This special edition is based on the performance-focused Black Badge Ghost, armed with a more potent iteration of the twin-turbo 6.75-litre V12 engine, generating a considerable 441 kW. This powerhouse sends power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the Ghost’s signature “magic carpet” ride is impeccably managed by the Ghost-specific planar suspension.
As for the price of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, Rolls-Royce has chosen to keep that tidbit under wraps. However, they’ve proudly announced that all 25 of these exceptional specimens have already found their homes with clients from across the globe.
