“The new D-MAX X-RIDER is all about image, style and capability, and is a great choice for discerning customers that want something special. The X-RIDER will attract a lot of attention, but to offer value to our customer the new X-RIDER is based on the mid-range 1.9 Ddi LS models with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions in 4×2 form, and a 4×4 automatic for adventurous customers heading off the beaten track.” – Kevin Fouche, Department Executive: Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa.

The X-Rider offshoot of the D-Max model debuted in 2016 and was established as a visually enhanced variant of the D-Max bakkie. Returning for the seventh generation of the D-Max, the X-RIDER offshoot is offered in three configurations: the HR X-RIDER LS 6MT, HR X-RIDER LS AT and the 4×4 X-RIDER LS AT. The X-RIDER’s physique stands out from the standard D-Max models by way of a gloss black grille contrasted by red “Isuzu” lettering, “X-RIDER” badges, black bumper guard, black mirrors, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and a towbar. The cabin is primarily composed of dark surfaces and materials. Contrasting the dark cabin are several red accents strewn throughout the X-RIDER’s cabin, from the X logo on the glovebox and dashboard to the leather-wrapped seats with red accent stitching.

The X-RIDER models rely on Isuzu’s 1.9-litre Ddi turbo-diesel four-cylinder to generate power. The maximum effort from the diesel-drinking four-cylinder is 110 kW and 350 N.m, which is the same output produced in non-X-RIDER models. Depending on the configuration, the powerplant is mated either to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Performance characteristics such as wading depth, aerodynamic elements and more remain unchanged compared to standard D-Max models.
