Omoda has unveiled a heightened and heartier version of the five-door crossover bearing a “GT” badge and a few bespoke design cues. In doing so, the Omoda C5 GT has inherited the title of the most powerful and striking in the firm’s stable.

The Omoda C5 GT brings even more power and performance to the Omoda C5’s unmistakable ‘Art in Motion’ styling. It’s been designed for those who crave an enhanced driving experience, combining tenacious grip, versatility, agility, and speed” – Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager at Omoda SA

Positioned as the be-all and end-all in the Omoda range, the C5 with the “GT” suffix is touted as the answer for consumers seeking the comfortable driving experience of a regular C5, only with added athleticism. Reaffirming its affinity for performance is a handful of visual changes, such as a large rear wing, and brushed gold wheels, which are the spawns of the firm’s “Art in Motion” design language.

The most notable deviation from the standard Omoda C5’s powertrain formula is the powerplant that motivates the new C5 GT. In the vanilla C5 model, power is derived from a 1,5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, which affords the crossover’s front wheels 115 kW and 230 N.m. As a more performance-inclined offshoot, the C5 GT relies on a larger, 1,6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces a maximum output of 145 kW and 290 N.m. Interestingly, the C5 GT relies on the firm’s iHEC combustion system, which Omoda claims improves fuel efficiency by 37,1%. Additional performance-related enhancements include a new set of ventilated disc brakes.

The C5 GT will be offered in two trim levels. The first will be the 1.6T model with premium paintwork, and the second, which may very well be the new range-topping offshoot, a 1.6T model, which is characterised by its bespoke bodywork and paint.
