“We wanted to create a modern iteration of a car that was truly unique. Luckily for us, there is no shortage of Porsche cars that people label as icons. We elected to ‘remaster’ one of the greatest icons of them all, the original 911 Turbo prototype from Louise Piech. This car is interesting not only because of the engine, narrow body and large rear wing. It also had a unique interior that was our focus point to be recreated for the new car.” – Patrick Gallas, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur Manager, Porsche Middle East and Africa.

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (also referred to as the “special request” programme) began in the 1970s, as a response to clients who desired more personalisation options for their cars. Porsche has reimagined a 992-generation 911 Turbo to mimic the 911 Turbo prototype, gifted to Ferdinand Porsche’s daughter, Louise Piëch, in 1974. What made this example of the Turbo special, aside from being a prototype model and the birthday gift for the company founder’s daughter, was its unique physique. This 911 featured the narrower body of a 911 Carrera, which would go on to debut the iconic large Turbo rear wing. Additionally, the prototype was further distinguished by its tartan fabric interior and was purposefully chosen to compliment the silver exterior.

In the early 1970s, few silver colour choices were available, and as such, Louise Piech’s 911 wore a standard silver exterior colour. The modern interpretation wears a “GT silver” exterior paint, which is the standard metallic colour for all Turbo models. Additional distinguishing features include the Sport Design package, body-colour matched rear side air-intakes and mirrors, bespoke decals, black five-spoke Tubo wheels (used to mimic the black Fuchs alloy wheels that adorned the first Turbo model) and the Turbo badge from the first production Turbo model.

The 992-gen 911 features a modified version of the Heritage Design Classic Package to achieve the same look as Piech’s 911. From the glovebox to the frunk, the red and blue chequered Tartan fabric trim that characterised the original turbo has been recreated, by way of a custom appointment of leather, fabric and two-tone material. The red and blue, two-tone seats utilise the original Turbo model’s lettering theme and period-correct, tone-in-tone leather piping. Below the metal and retro-interior, the 992-generation 911 Turbo’s mechanical underpinnings remain undisturbed.

“We wanted to use this opportunity to promote and highlight what the Exclusive Manufaktur department can do through Sonderwunsch, so we really pushed the boundaries and utilized many unique features that you won’t find on the car configurator including a cross stitching on the upper dash and upper doors, which is all done by hand.”
