Toyota Unveils Land Cruiser GDJ76 as New UN Company Car

Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings, the global distributor for Toyota humanitarian fleets, has unveiled the Land Cruiser GDJ76, which will be used by the United Nations.

Positioned as a rugged, back-to-basics version of the Land Cruiser 70, this model maintains its reputation as a reliable, ladder frame-based SUV with formidable four-wheel drive capabilities.

Primarily targeted at humanitarian agencies operating in challenging terrains, the GDJ76, designed by TGS in Gibraltar, features a Spartan interior tailored for functionality. Unlike its Australian counterpart, it eschews luxuries like a 6,7-inch touch-screen, opting instead for a storage shelf and panel for customer radio fitment. The vehicle retains the essential design elements of the Land Cruiser 70, including a robust steel wheelbase, Toyota Active Traction Control, and manual locking hubs for enhanced reliability.

In line with its purpose-driven design, the GDJ76 prioritizes utility over comfort. Dispensing with features like automatic high-beam headlights and a digital gauge cluster, it embraces a pragmatic approach to meet the demands of remote and perilous locations worldwide. The absence of these amenities, however, is compensated by the inclusion of Toyota’s proven 2,8-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, also known as the GD6, generating 147 kW and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the vehicle achieves a 30% reduction in emissions, adhering to Euro4 standards for operation in specific nations.

Reserved exclusively for humanitarian agencies, the Land Cruiser GDJ76 is not available for individual customers. TGS offers customization options, allowing agencies to tailor the vehicle’s cabins to their specific requirements. Additionally, for those operating in high-risk environments, a made-to-order bulletproof variant is available upon request.
