Nissan NV350 Taxi Converted into Electric Disaster Support Van

Japan is kicking the year off on a high with the Tokyo Auto Salon taking place in January. Nissan has some cool concepts to display, one of which is an NV350 taxi that has been converted into a Disaster Support Van. Interestingly enough, the automaker claims it has the Leaf’s electric battery.

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2024 will take place at Makuhari Messe from the 12th of January to the 14th of January and Nissan has revealed some of what its display will entail. Off-road to on road to Nismo branded creations, one of the whackier and more niche concepts the Japanese automaker will be displaying is this repurposed Disaster Support Van which bears striking resemblance to what we are affectionately familiar with as the NV350 Impendulo taxi.

As the concept’s name suggests, this van-based mobile support hub is designed for deployment in the aftermath of disasters like earthquakes and floods, providing power when conventional sources are unavailable. Most interesting is that Nissan has outfitted the van with repurposed old batteries from the Nissan Leaf electric hatchback. The van looks heavily equipped with chunky tyres, off-roading bits and pieces on the facades and lighting to aid in disaster recovery. 

Based on the Caravan, this Disaster Support Mobile-Hub model has been customized to serve as a mobile support hub in times of disaster. Equipped with multiple sets of “Portable Battery from LEAF” launched in September, the model is aimed to secure lifelines and bring other solutions in disaster-stricken areas. – Nissan

On the day of the event, the booth and talk show will be broadcast live on Nissan’s official YouTube account, and the booth will be shared with fans through interactive communication.
