With stiff competition across all passenger vehicle segments, many automakers relatively new to South Africa have undergone some radical puberty spurts. Let us know which of the automakers below you believe has undergone the biggest glow-up below!

Representing Asian automakers from South Korea and China, all of the selected contenders have shown a great improvement in perceived quality and attractive styling. Gone are the days of mundane, white-good-esque four-wheeled offerings for our market! Now available are race-bred models like the i30 N from Hyundai (a recent CAR Performance Shootout winner) and easy-on-the-eye family haulers like the Kia Sorento. Not bad considering both automakers only arrived in Mzansi just before the close of the century.
Moving into an age of new energy, both South Korean automakers have demonstrated their design might with the Kia EV range as well as the utterly cool Ioniq lineup from Hyundai – despite being ICEless, the future is at least looking good.

More recent however is the significant rebirth of Chery in the country and the continual improvement of GWM and its subsidiary Haval. As much as many former buyers have removed the thought of the forgettable QQ range from their minds, much of this can be accredited to the value-for-money offerings the Chinese automaker has had on offer in the past several years.

This is just a small selection of automakers that have subjectively improved on their offerings in terms of perception and aesthetics but let us know if you feel there is another automaker contending the local space that you would have chosen instead!
