GWM Tank 800 Spotted In Full Test Car Guise

GWM’s Tank range is growing, and with the Tank 300 recently debuting on local soil, the much larger Tank 800 has been sighted overseas in full test car guise.

The concept model of the Herculean Great Wall Motor SUV debuted in 2021 at the Shanghai Auto Show, adorned in an eye-catching purple and cream colour scheme. The test car spotted in the wild doesn’t appear to deviate far from the concept model’s design. A large front grille with vertical slots flanked by round headlights encased in square frames is the main distinguishing element of the boxy giant. Photos of the interior, provided by AutoHome, showcase a well-appointed cabin featuring key elements, such as a large digital driver display, a larger central touchscreen, a rotating drive mode selector dial, and a pronounced shifter.

Below the muscular and imposing physique is reported to be a PHEV system similar to that of the Tank 700 Hi4-T, which features a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 and electric motor mated to a nine-speed transmission. In 700 Hi4-T configuration, this powertrain generates 385 kW/850 N.m delivered to the SUV’s four corners. Reports from Chinese media outlets suggest that the Tank 800 will debut with the 3.0-litre beating heart accompanied by a 48V hybrid system, with a Hi4-T offshoot rumoured to debut after. It is important to note that these are merely speculations as official information regarding the Tank 800’s powertrain and power output are yet to be officially disclosed. Underpinning the largest member of the Tank family will be an air suspension system accompanied by double wishbone architecture on the front and rear.

Reports suggest that the Tank 800 will debut sometime later this year. The brand’s pioneering model, the Tank 300, has just debuted, serving as the local market’s first and only taste of GWM’s ladder-frame SUV offerings.
