“Honda has laid out an electrification strategy leading to 100% zero-emission automobile sales by 2040, including the introduction of both battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles like this new CR-V e:FCEV model.” – Mamadou Diallo, senior vice president of Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co.
The 2025 CR-V e:FCEV is distinguished by its unique styling intended to distinguish this model from the likes of the CR-V turbo and hybrid models. A new lower-lying upright grille design and long bonnet are credited for the five-seat’s sleek physique. A front spoiler and strake are some of the aerodynamic elements introduced to this version of the CR-V. Additionally, the e:FCEV offshoot features a full underbody cover. Curtailing the new body panels, bespoke liftgate design and rear fascia are the vertical taillights.

The CR-V e:FCEV relies on Honda’s second-generation Fuel Cell Module, which is more durable, efficient, and lower cost than the previous generation of the fuel cell system. A 130 kW/ 310 N.m front-mounted single electric motor is responsible for motivating the hydrogen CR-V offshoot. The e:FCEV has a claimed driving range of 434 km and an all-electric driving range of up to 46 km. Honda has improved the structural integrity of the e:FCEV, resulting in a 10% increase in rear lateral rigidity and a 9% increase in rear torsional rigidity. The SUV employs MacPherson struts for its front suspension, while a multi-link suspension system is employed in the rear. Both systems have been retuned and feature new springs, amplitude-sensitive dampers and stabiliser bars on the front and rear.

“Leveraging Honda fuel cell technology expertise continues to play a critical role in our global goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050,”
Considering Honda’s CR-V fleet has landed in South Africa with pricing around the 7-digit mark, it is unlikely we will receive the zero-emissions model anytime soon.
