Staying true to its legendary boxy design, the electric G-Wagon maintains its iconic appearance reminiscent of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts. At the front, a sleek gloss black panel features four horizontal vents flanking the prominent three-pointed star emblem, accented by an LED strip encircling the entire panel. Notable design elements include a subtly raised bonnet, air vents adorning the rear wheel arches, ‘EQ’ badges, circular LED headlights, LED taillights, and a rear storage box for charging cables, though an optional spare tyre remains available. Standard features include 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Mercedes-Benz electric G-Wagon boasts the latest MBUX infotainment system, featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen display compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional interior luxuries include temperature-controlled cup holders, wireless charging, keyless entry, a Burmester 3D surround-sound system, rear-seat entertainment units, and premium leather upholstery throughout. The G580 offers five drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Individual, Trail, and Rock.

Buyers can choose from five colour options: South Sea Blue Magno, Obsidian Black Metallic, Opalite White Magno, Opalite White Bright, and Classic Grey Solid, with the option to further customize with AMG Line and Night packages.

Underneath its robust exterior, the Mercedes-Benz G580 maintains its ladder-frame chassis, paired with independent suspension at the front and a solid axle at the rear, reinforced to accommodate the additional weight. Weighing in at 3 085 kg, it is 530 kg heavier than the G450d variant.

Tailored for off-road performance, the suspension system features adjustable dampers at each corner, enabling the G580 to tackle steep inclines with ease. Its capabilities mirror those of its ICE-powered counterpart, capable of climbing up to a 100% grade on suitable surfaces, with an added advantage of 150 mm fording depth, totalling 850.9 mm. Ground clearance measures 248.92 mm, while approach, departure, and breakover angles are rated at 32, 30.7, and 20.3 degrees, respectively.

Powering the G580 is a 116 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated range of 386 km. Equipped with fast-charging capabilities of up to 200 kW at Level 3 DC chargers, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. The electric G-Wagon is driven by four electric motors—two at the front and two at the rear—marking Mercedes’ first production vehicle with individual four-wheel-drive capability. These motors deliver a total power output of 432 kW and an impressive torque of 1 165 N.m, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

Pricing details for the 2025 G-Class range, including the G580 with EQ Technology electric variant, will be disclosed closer to its market launch.
