Bedeo Launches Reborn Electric: Icons Program with Electric Land Rover Defender Retrofit

Aftermarket companies no stranger to converting classics into zero emissions companions for the road (and off of it), Bedeo has arrived with the first of its Icons initiative, which has converted the iconic Land Rover Defender into an EV.

Serving in the electric mobility sector for several years now, the British-founded company has unveiled its Reborn Electric: Icons Land Rover Defender, marking the beginning of its pioneering initiative to retrofit classic cars with electric power. The Reborn Electric: Icons program signifies Bedeo’s commitment to sustainable mobility, leveraging its cutting-edge in-wheel motor (IWM) technology to offer the world’s first electric retrofit package for legendary passenger cars.

The transformation of the Land Rover Defender which has evolved into a beloved automotive icon, into an electric vehicle (EV) sees the off-roader maintain its rugged charisma while embracing the advantages of electric power. Equipped with a 75-kWh battery, the Defender boasts an estimated WLTP range of 247 km (153 miles) and a standard 22 kW on-board charger, achieving full charge in just five hours. Optional 50 kW fast charging is also available, recharging the vehicle in 90 minutes.

The Bedeo high-performance electric drivetrain, engineered in-house, ensures the updated Defender retains its original characteristics on the road while operating without emissions. The proprietary IWM technology, developed by group company Protean Electric, offers versatility across various vehicle models, catering to individual customer preferences.

Osman Boyner, founder and CEO of BEDEO, emphasized the program’s significance, stating, “Reborn Electric: Icons represents a natural evolution for us as pioneers in sustainable mobility. We’re preserving automotive heritage while enabling the clean and efficient transportation of the future.”
