Facelifted Kia Picanto – Pricing and Spec

The refreshed Kia Picanto has launched in South Africa, with the revised model line-up sporting more striking cosmetic enhancements and other handy features. Here’s how much you can expect to pay.

Since the first generation’s introduction to South Africa, more than 100 000 Picantos have found new homes in SA. “It’s safe to say that the Picanto is just about everyone’s favourite Kia,” said Kia SA.

Now, following the launch of the refreshed Kia Seltos, Kia SA has introduced the updated Picanto to SA shores, with the local arm of the South Korean carmaker saying the recently launched and cosmetically enhanced model line-up “builds on a remarkable legacy and sets the range up for even bigger successes as it enhances the notion of always moving forward”. As standard, all models ship with Kia’s five-year/unlimited km warranty. In addition, each variant includes a two-year/30 000 km service plan.

Priced from R260 995, the facelifted Picanto range comprises six derivatives, available with the option of three trim levels, while the engine and transmission options have remained the same as those offered with the pre-facelifted variants. This includes a 49 kW/95 Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol powertrain, the latter of which produces 62 kW and 122 Nm of torque. Both engines can be had with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.

So, what has been upgraded? Well, the most notable updates come in the shape of a redesigned front and rear end. The Picanto has gained a fresh front bumper, replete with a revised version of the company’s signature ‘tiger nose’ grille, and a new lighting signature. The latter can also be found ‘round back, where the taillamps are horizontally connected. The aft bumper has also been redesigned.

Entry-level LX trim, which replaces the Street and Style spec levels, features body-coloured bumpers and side-mirror housings. The side mirrors are electrically adjustable. Stepping inside (via standard keyless entry), the interior is equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which incorporates Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and displays feed from the rear-view camera setup. A four-speaker sound system is included. The multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in leather.

EX trim, which replaces Style spec, upgrades to new 14-inch alloy wheels (as opposed to LX’s steel items), electrically folding side mirrors, a storage box between the front pews, an updated 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster, two additional tweeter speakers, and, notably, ESC and hill-start assist. Range-topping EX Plus variants gain keyless start, automatic climate control, rear park distance sensors (to supplement the reverse-view camera), LED taillamps, and 15-inch alloy wheels.
