This new addition aims to compete in the increasingly crowded double-cab bakkie market, where both new and established brands are vying for consumer attention.

“As part of our T8 repositioning strategy, we aimed to offer a derivative priced under R400 000, ensuring tremendous value for buyers. The new T8 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux derivative delivers on this; it is also packed with safety features for peace of mind motoring,” – Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.

Since its South African debut in 2017, JAC Motors has expanded significantly by growing from 10 dealerships to over 70 across Southern Africa. In more recent times, the Chinese automaker has also broadened its product range, starting with the X200 2.8L TDI forward-cab bakkie and later adding the T-Series double-cabs and N-Truck range.

The T-Series expanded in 2019 with the introduction of the T8 1.9L TDI, followed by a 2021 update with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and enhanced features. In 2023, JAC Motors further refined the T8 with a facelift and added features, which were launched alongside the new T9. The introduction of the new T8 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux derivative reflects JAC’s strategy to offer a competitively priced double-cab under R400 000.

The new entrant includes a raft of safety features as well as a reverse camera, rear park distance sensors, remote keyless entry, and central locking.

The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto while USB and 12V power sockets are included in the centre console.

Powering the T8 Lux is a 2.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel engine, delivering 104 kW at 3 600 r/min and 320 N.m of torque between 1 600 and 2 600 r/min. It pairs with a 6-speed manual transmission and offers an average fuel consumption of 7.8 L/100 km. With a 76-litre tank, the T8 Lux provides an approximate range of 1 000 kilometres. On the outside, the T8 Lux features a bold chrome-plated grille, Xenon headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights, and black wheel arches and running boards. The 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/60 R18 tyres deliver the power and torque to the ground. The T8 is available in six colours. A range of JAC Motors-approved accessories allows owners to personalise their vehicles to match their individual tastes.
