Lancia Will Return to Rally and Rebirth its Iconic HF Model Lineup

Remaining the most successful rally team in the history of the WRC, Lancia has announced it will be making a comeback to the sport with the recently unveiled ICE-powered Ypsilon HF, albeit as a front-wheel drive competitor.

Rebirthing the iconic HF badge, Lancia has previewed a sporty iteration of its Ypsilon hatchback which is set to hit the market in May 2025. Powered by a 179 kW electric motor, the model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. It features lowered suspension, a widened wheel track, and a muscular design inspired by Lancia’s historic models. Following the Ypsilon HF, Lancia plans to introduce HF versions of the Gamma and Delta models too.

In addition to the announcement of a more sporty alternative of the Ypsilon for the road, the more exciting news is that Lancia will be making a return to rallying with the Ypsilon Rally 4 HF. Known for its illustrious rally history, Lancia aims to rekindle its competitive spirit and continue building on its title as most successful rally team of all time. The Ypsilon Rally 4 HF, powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine delivering 156 kW, features front-wheel drive and a mechanical limited-slip differential, which will hate it compete in the R4 class and two-wheel drive championships.

Lancia’s competitive legacy is celebrated through the revival of the historic HF logo and the introduction of the “Lancia Corse HF” logo. These logos, modernized for today’s market, symbolize Lancia’s rich heritage and commitment to innovation, premiumness, and the Italian spirit. Luca Napolitano, Lancia brand CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the brand’s future, stating, “Lancia has always been in people’s hearts, thanks to its competitive soul. That sporty heart is starting to beat again today! Those same fans will be the new customers of Lancia of the future!”

This collaboration aims to strengthen Lancia’s position in the premium segment, aligning the brand with luxury and exclusivity. The second story showcases Lancia’s comprehensive and elegant range, coupled with a financial offer that places it squarely in the heart of the market. This approach is designed to offer “mass exclusivity,” making high-end features accessible to a broader audience.
