Chinese-Made Dayun Yuehu S5 Arrives as SA’s Most Affordable EV

Enviro Automotive, importer and distributor of electric vehicles, has announced the local introduction of the Dayun Yuehu S5, a sub-R400 000 all-electric compact crossover/SUV.

Billed as a “zippy” SUV for the city environment, the Dayun Yuehu S5 has launched in South Africa, with the newcomer, which is priced from below R400 000, aiming to “redefine” the local electric-vehicle (EV) segment. Here’s what you can expect, including pricing and spec, from SA’s least expensive EV.

  • Dayun Yuehu S5 Standard — R399 900
  • Dayun Yuehu S5 VIP — R449 900

As standard, both variants ship with a three-year/60 000 km service plan and warranty, and a battery warranty spanning five years or 120 000 km.

The Dayun Yuehu S5 employs a 35 kW/105 N.m electric motor. According to the company, when the compact SUV’s 31.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is fully charged, it offers a range of 330 km. When plugged into a 220 V charging station, it takes “about” four hours for the battery to be replenished, while a DC fast charge from 20% to 80% takes “under” an hour. The electricity consumption is a claimed 10.7 kWh/100 km. The Dayun Yuehu S5 has a top speed of 100 km/h.

As standard, the EV sports automatic headlamps, keyless start, a 7.0-inch infotainment system and 8.0-inch digital instruments, a reverse-view camera system, automatic cruise control, tyre-pressure monitoring, driver and passenger airbags, and Isofix child-seat anchorages. ABS, EBD, and hill-start assist, are also included in the package. VIP trim grade gains LED daytime-running lights, front fog lamps, a quartet of ultrasonic sensors, and 16-inch alloy wheels (as opposed to the Standard model’s 15-inch items).

The Dayun Yuehu S5 measures 3 695 mm in length, 1 685 mm in width, 1 598 mm in height, and 2 410 mm between the fore and aft axles. The ground clearance is rated at 201 mm.
