Kyalami Ablaze with Enduro this Weekend – SAES Round 4

The fourth round of the South African Endurance Series (SAES) Championship at Kyalami is shaping up to be a critical event for competitors aiming for the top. Previous rounds have delivered dramatic last-lap victories, and the Kyalami round promises to be just as intense.

SAES

Among the contenders, the Adjust4Sleep/Rico Barlow Nova NP02 team, driven by Nick Adcock, Michael Jensen, and Charl Visser, is eyeing a comeback after their gearbox failure in Gqeberha. Team principal Rico Barlow is confident in their repaired gearbox, stating, “I am confident it will not pose any problems at Kyalami and we most certainly looking to get a good finish.”

The previous round at Aldo Scribante was a rollercoaster of emotions. The Into Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan, driven by Xolile Letlaka and Stuart White, was demoted to second place due to a penalty, making them eager for redemption at Kyalami. Meanwhile, Paul Hill and Bradley Liebenberg, who inherited the win in Gqeberha with their Promigen Audi, are determined to prove themselves with an outright victory.

SAES

Consistency is key in endurance racing, and the Pple Group trio of Phillip Meyer, Mark Harvey, and Dean Wolson (Backdraft Roadster) lead the championship log with 100 points. They are closely followed by Hill and Liebenberg, with the BBR Racing team and Into Africa Racing hot on their heels. The Backdraft Roadster Championship within the SAES is also heating up. The Pple Group leads, chased by the father-son duo of Harm and Barend Pretorius from Pesty Racing. Tradecore Racing, with drivers Jean-Paul Briner, CJ Blackman, and Anthony Hoare, is also in the mix.

Class B sees Lonika Maartens at the top, despite having different co-drivers at each round. She is followed by Fabienne Lanz and Antony Pretorius, who switched from a Backdraft to a Fast Development Audi R8 GT4. With Maartens not entered for Kyalami, Lanz has a golden opportunity to take the lead. In Class C, Karah Hill and Jurie Swart lead in their Kalex VW Polo, while David and Roberto Franco dominate Class D with their VW Supa Polo. The Korridas team from Mozambique, buoyed by their recent win, aims to capitalize on their momentum.

With drivers required to drop one race from their scores at season’s end, Kyalami will provide a glimpse into the championship’s future. The introduction of new cars and teams, like the Harp Motorsports Ginetta G57 and a second Into Africa Lamborghini Huracan, adds further excitement.

Regular competitors like Mike McLoughlin and Steve Clark in their Backdraft Carbon Car, and MJR Motorsport with their Audi R8 LMS GT3, return to the fray. Samlin Racing, with Nathan and Sam Hammond, aims for points in their Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2. Watch out for Stradale Motorsport’s Arnold Neveling and Charl Arangies in a new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR Gen II.

The Kyalami race will start at 14:00 on August 3rd, with the fading light towards the 18:00 finish adding to the challenge. The event promises anything can happen. In addition to the main event, the day features the Motorcycle Racing Series SA (MRSSA) for the first time. MRSSA aims to bring fun back into competitive racing with minimal rules. The races have been close, and Kyalami should be no different. The Silver Cup Series, a grassroots form of racing with 44 cars, will also compete. Look out for drivers like Michael Kernick, Devin Robertson, Wayne Lebotschy, and Dewald Pretorius. Find tickets here.

SAES

Formula Super Vee, a regular support series for SAES, returns with championship points at stake. Jeandre le Roux, Lushen Ramchander, and Kyle Lawrence are the frontrunners, but surprises are always possible. With a packed schedule and plenty of action, the 4 Hours of Kyalami promises to be a thrilling spectacle for racing fans.
