Meet the Updated Volkswagen Touareg

Volkswagen has given its Touareg SUV a bit of a refresh for the new model year and while it isn’t a complete overhaul, there are some interesting updates that make it a more compelling option in the crowded luxury SUV segment. Here’s what we know so far.

The Touareg’s fresh look focuses on making the front end bolder and more prominent. The upper radiator grille now stretches wider, making the SUV look more commanding. The standout feature? The new IQ. Light HD matrix headlights. These aren’t just for show; they come with three LED modules and three L-shaped LEDs for daytime running lights. There’s also a sleek, illuminated strip that runs across the front, connecting the headlights and framing the Volkswagen logo.

One of the most impressive upgrades is the new lighting system. The IQ. Light HD matrix headlights offer a glare-free main beam. This means you can leave your high beams on even when driving through town, thanks to the interactive LEDs. These lights adjust to avoid blinding oncoming drivers and vehicles in front of you.

The Touareg’s design has been sharpened from front to back. At the rear, the changes are just as noticeable. A continuous horizontal LED strip now connects the taillights, and the Volkswagen logo lights up in red. These updates give the Touareg a more modern and polished look.

Inside, Volkswagen has enhanced the standard equipment of the Touareg. Voice control is now more responsive, and the USB-C connections have been upgraded to 45 watts from the previous 15 watts, allowing for much faster charging of devices. Feedback from customers has led to improvements in the interior’s quality, like softer trims on the centre console, adding an extra touch of comfort.

The new Touareg comes loaded with driving assistance systems designed to make your journey easier and safer. Standard features include Travel Assist, which helps with driving up to top speed, and an Area View camera for better visibility while parking. Night Vision is another handy tool, that helps you drive more safely in the dark.

The refreshed Touareg is available in two trims: Elegance and R-Line. Both trims feature the new IQ. Light HD matrix headlights and updated IQ. Light LED tail lights, which now have dynamic brake and turn signal functions. The illuminated Volkswagen logo adds a stylish touch. Inside, the ambient lighting can now be adjusted in 30 colours, illuminating three zones, including the footwells and drink holders.

Both trims come with electrically adjustable leather seats and updated interior trims. The radiator grille, alloy wheels, and bumpers all have new designs specific to each trim level. The exterior mirrors also project the Volkswagen logo onto the ground, adding a bit of flair and improved lighting around the vehicle. Under the metal, the new Touareg is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine, producing 190 kW. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system.

Both models come with a 5-year/100 000 km Maintenance Plan, a 3-year/120 000 km warranty, a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty, and a space-saver spare wheel. The service interval is every 15 000 km, ensuring your Touareg stays in top shape.
