Before sales reports dominated by raised ride height SUVs, Aston Martin once sold sporty two-door coupes exclusively. Just more than 20 years on, one of these models that was campaigned by Pierce Brosnan for the James Bond franchise is set to go under the hammer. The Vanquish in question is a V12-powered GT capable of impressive performance, even by today’s grand tourer standards. While it is no new model, it is estimated to fetch between £50 000 and £70 000 (or R1.1 to R1.6 million). Known for its association with the James Bond franchise, this particular model started as one of seven Vanquish cars kept by Aston Martin for press duties. It was sequentially registered under the license plate series ‘Y829 MWL’ to ‘Y836 MWL,’ excluding ‘Y830 MWL.’ The car up for auction, bearing the registration ‘Y834 MWL,’ had already appeared in various publications before making its way to Pinewood Studios for a photoshoot with Pierce Brosnan.

The resulting promotional images, featuring the Vanquish in Tungsten Silver paint with a Charcoal leather interior and aluminium center console, were used worldwide to promote Die Another Day in 2002. This Bond film also starred Halle Berry and featured a theme song by Madonna, who made a cameo appearance. Adding to its allure, the Vanquish briefly sported the license plate ‘M16 SPY’ and was also registered as ‘A12 AML.’ With only 37 800 miles on the odometer (just over 60 000 km), the car has been part of a prominent collection for over 20 years.

The car also holds a special place in UK motoring history, having led the parade to commemorate the opening of the M6 Toll road in 2003 as well. Its association with James Bond and Pierce Brosnan makes it a sought-after piece of both cinematic and automotive history.

James McWilliam, Sales Manager at H&H Classics, expressed his excitement about the upcoming auction: “Our October auction offers a fantastic opportunity to own a slice of movie and motoring history with this stunning Aston Martin Vanquish. Not only was it used at Pinewood Studios for photoshoots with Pierce Brosnan for Die Another Day, but it was also the first car to drive down the M6 Toll road to commemorate its opening. Additionally, as well as the close connection to James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, who himself owned a 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, the car is also a superb example of the marque’s last hand-built grand tourer.”

This model, along with other high end and classic vehicles, will be auctioned off on the 9th of October.
