Brabus Unleashes Shooting Brake SL Rocket GTS

This past weekend, German tuner Brabus pulled out all the stops, unveiling a showcase of around 36 models, including its latest and perhaps most audacious creation yet—the Brabus Rocket GTS.

Based on the current Mercedes-AMG SL 63, and dubbed a “hyper gran turismo,” the Rocket GTS features an exterior crafted entirely from carbon fibre, with highly optimised aerodynamics. The rear section sports a spoiler and diffuser made from the lightweight material, with the addition of titanium exhaust tips giving the car a distinctive look. “This combination not only looks unique but adds a bit of practicality,” according to Brabus.

Under the bonnet, the Rocket GTS utilises a hybrid powertrain that pairs a tuned 4.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor, delivering a staggering 735 kW and 1 620 N.m of torque. Brabus initially dialled up the torque to 1 820 N.m, but opted to scale that output back to “protect the nine-speed automatic transmission from an early retirement.” Precision-crafted components, including a unique crankshaft with a 100 mm stroke, specialised connecting rods, forged pistons, and enhanced turbochargers, contribute to this powerplant’s remarkable output.

Performance-wise, Brabus claims the Rocket GTS is capable of cracking the 0-100 km/h sprint in a mere 2.6 seconds, blitzes past 200 km/h in 9.5 seconds, and hits 300 km/h in 23.6 seconds, while its top speed is capped at 317 km/h. The braking and cooling systems benefit from Brabus’s Monoblock P Platinum Edition wheels equipped with carbon aeroblades, helping to manage the heat generated by high-speed braking.

Inside, the Rocket GTS takes advantage of its taller shooting brake body style, which does away with the folding roof mechanism to create a more spacious cargo area. With a 2+2 seating layout, this SL variant is a far more practical proposition than the coupe upon which it’s based. For this model, the interior has undergone Brabus’s “Masterpiece” treatment, with leather and Alcantara upholstery wrapping the cabin in dark slate grey and jet black, offset with light grey stitching and shadow grey accents. Carbon fibre inserts and Brabus branding add a performance-inspired touch.
