4 New Jaecoo Models Coming to SA in 2025

In 2025, Chery subsidiary Jaecoo will introduce a trio of brand-new models and a box-fresh derivative of the J7 to South African shores. Here’s a closer look at each of them…

J5

Positioned below the J7, the J5 will serve as the entry point to Jaecoo’s local model portfolio. Taking design inspiration from its larger, midsize sibling, though the SA engine line-up has yet to be announced, the upcoming compact crossover/SUV will likely employ the brand’s 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain, which, in this application, produces 136 kW and 275 N.m of torque. In addition, we expect the J7’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be carried over to the J5.

Stepping inside, the J5’s facia is dominated by a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The package further includes “smart” climate control, an “advanced” air filtration system, and pet-friendly accessories. A panoramic glass roof, which the company says will be the largest in the segment, is also present.

J6

The first fully electric vehicle to don the “Jaecoo” badge, the J6 is targeted towards “adventure-minded” consumers looking for an EV that offers “light” off-roading capabilities and is equipped with top-tier features, which, among other items, include a 15.6-inch, touch-enabled infotainment display.

Final specifications for SA have yet to be confirmed, however; yet, it is worth noting that, in other markets, the J6 is available in two flavours — a two-wheel-drive version, which is endowed with 184 kW and 220 N.m, and an all-paw model with peak power and torque outputs of 279 kW and 385 N.m.

J7 PHEV

In a bid to bolster the J7’s appeal, the firm will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant to SA in the coming 12 months. According to the company, the introduction of this derivative allows it to offer consumers a reasonably priced PHEV. The automaker says customers can expect a 90 km all-electric range from this variant. However, Jaecoo has noted that this figure is “subject to change” once it makes landfall on SA shores.

J8

Once introduced to SA, the J8 will become the flagship offering in Jaecoo’s local model range. According to the firm, the seven-seater is equipped with all the features one would expect from a flagship model. We expect the J8 to employ 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 195 kW and 400 N.m of torque. Overseas, a plug-in hybrid model is also available, though this derivative has yet to be confirmed for SA.
