Undoubtedly impressive for a vehicle of its size, according to our test equipment, the GLC 63 S E Performance is a mere 0.04 seconds slower to 100 km/h from a standstill than the C63 S E Performance we tested in the July 2024 issue of CAR. Making the AMG GLC’s figure even more astounding is when taking into account that, according to our scales, the 500 kW/1 020 N.m GLC weighs nearly 300 kg more than its sedan sibling (2 360 kg vs 2 085 kg).
Overtaking acceleration was equally impressive. Between the 60 to 100 km/h and 80 to 120 km/h increments, the apex GLC recorded times of 1.77 seconds and 2.14 seconds. Though slower to 100 from 60 km/h than the C63 S E Performance, which recorded a time of 1.61 seconds, the GLC 63 S E Performance’s 80 to 120 km/h time bested the C63’s by 0.01 seconds. In the 80 to 100 km/h and 100 to 120 km/h stakes, the GLC 63 recorded times of 0.98 seconds and 1.16 seconds, making it a mere 0.08 seconds slower (from 80 to 100 km/h) than the C63, but, noteworthy, 0.09 seconds quicker to 120 from 100 km/h.
With an average 100-0 km/h braking time of 2.83 seconds (0.03 seconds quicker than the C63) — thus gaining it an ‘excellent’ rating by our standards — the GLC 63 S E Performance continued to impress on our test strip. The GLC 63’s 390 mm front and 370 mm rear ventilated brakes brought the car to a halt in 37.9 metres (0.9 metres less than the C63).
