Springbok Star Eben Etzebeth Shows Off New G63 Grand Edition

South African rugby star Eben Etzebeth has sparked online attention after showcasing a Mercedes-Benz G63 Grand Edition on social media. Limited to just 1 000 units globally, and with only 20 available in South Africa, the performance-focused SUV carries a price tag of R5.5 million.

The G63 Grand Edition features an AMG 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, delivering 430 kW from 6 000 r/min and 850 N.m of torque from 2 500 r/min. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds. While its power is impressive, much of the online discussion has focused on its distinctive design.

Finished in MANUFAKTUR ‘night black magno’, the Grand Edition stands out with contrasting gold-coloured elements. The ‘Kalaharigold magno’ hue highlights the Mercedes star, Affalterbach emblem, AMG logo, bumper inlays, spare-wheel cover surround, 22-inch alloy wheels and side decals. Inside, black Nappa leather seats feature gold-coloured stitching, continuing the theme.

Etzebeth’s connection to Mercedes-Benz extends beyond this vehicle. As a “Friend of the Brand” for Mercedes-Benz South Africa, he has access to a range of high-end models. He has been seen driving a GLS 63, valued at R4.2 million, and was gifted a GLE400d following South Africa’s Rugby World Cup victory. His wife, Anlia, reportedly owns a GLC300d.

The combination of Etzebeth’s status and the rarity of the G63 Grand Edition has amplified interest in the model. His social media post quickly circulated, fuelling conversations about the SUV’s exclusivity, performance and price. The Grand Edition’s appeal lies not only in its limited availability but also in its blend of luxury and performance, making it a fitting addition to Etzebeth’s collection.
