Passenger car sales in South Africa remained strong in February 2025, despite ongoing economic challenges. According to the National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA), retail car sales increased by 17.1% compared to February 2024, indicating that buyers were largely unaffected by economic concerns. However, several factors influenced the market last month. “These included the delayed national budget announcement, uncertainty over trade relations with the United States and ongoing low business confidence,” said NADA Chairperson Brandon Cohen.

The February 2025 new passenger car market had registered an increase of 4 900 cars (to 33 757 units), compared to the 28 857 new cars sold in February 2024. Car rental sales accounted for a sound 14.6% of new passenger-vehicles sales during the month.
