The Q6 e-tron offroad concept was designed to quite literally claim new ground. The off-road-focused concept boasts a ground clearance of 345 mm (an increase of 160 mm over the emissions-free SUV it is based on), 250 mm wider tracks and thick all-terrain rubber.

The Q6 e-tron offroad concept is equipped with a twin electric-motor configuration. The setup produces a peak power output of 380 kW, which allows for an adequate-for-off-roading top speed of 175 km/h. The most significant upgrade made to the Q6 e-tron donor car is the fitment of four portal axles, which are integrated into the SUV’s wheel-hub assemblies. According to Audi, the specially designed arrangement allows the concept to traverse inclines with gradients of up to 100%.
In addition, whereas a conventional portal-axle setup enables a 20 to 30% increase in torque at the wheels, Audi says the prototype SUV’s configuration enables an increase of 50%. The result is a staggering 13 400 N.m of combined torque (up 4 400 N.m) sent to each corner for short durations.

Underpinned by Audi’s Premium Platform Electric architecture, the prototype was built to showcase the setup’s potential. Said Audi CEO Gernot Döllner, “The Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a reinterpretation of quattro. The model shows the potential that our platform for all-electric vehicles already has today. Innovations always begin with asking the right question. For the Q6, it was: ‘How can we create a highly emotive electric vehicle?’.”
