Chery is doubling down on hybrid tech with 2025 set to be a busy year for the Chinese brand. The company has announced plans to introduce 19 new hybrid models across three categories: traditional hybrids (HEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and range-extender EVs (REEV). The first of the bunch will be unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025 (happening now), headlined by the debut of a new sub-brand called Chery Super Hybrid (CSH).

Three models—Tiggo 7 CSH, Tiggo 8 CSH, and Tiggo 9 CSH are said to share the spotlight at the event. All three are based on a new hybrid powertrain architecture that Chery claims achieves thermal efficiency of 46.5% and transmission efficiency of 93%. On paper, that translates to fuel consumption as low as 2.0 L/100 km. At the heart of the system is a dedicated 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine paired with one of two hybrid transmissions (DHT230 or DHT280), producing up to 280 kW of combined output. Chery also says the system is tuned to handle off-road conditions, thanks to selectable power modes and a motor that can spin up to 24 000 r/min.

The CSH lineup will ride on a mix of new modular platforms, including an off-road setup and an extended-range variant, as well as an EV platform. These underpinnings are designed to offer different capabilities depending on the intended use. Chery South Africa says electrified models from this lineup will land locally before the end of the year.
