The Chelsea Truck Company has been around since 2012 and has since become synonymous with converting Britain’s most rugged off-roader into a more embellished product that stands with a more aggressive stance. No strangers to the L663-generation model, the company has now unveiled the Widebody Defender 2.0.

Developed by Chelsea Truck Co. founder Kahn Design, the kit was first teased as the Defender X Prototype. This final production Widebody takes the familiar wide-track silhouette and turns the dial all the way up. Unlike other iterations, which relied on fibreglass for production, this new kit is moulded from high-grade automotive acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which is a lightweight yet durable material used by OEMs. The tuner adds that this choice has enhanced panel integration, improved fit and finish, and a more accessible price point without diluting the bespoke nature of the brand. Speaking of which, all of this is priced at £9 750 (which translates to just under R250 000) and requires a labour-intensive process. Each kit requires 40 hours of body shop rework to ensure the most accurate fit possible.

Also favourable for buyers is that this Widebody offers full compatibility with Chelsea’s bumper vent styling package, which means the specification process can be done down to the last vent and crease. Available now for both Defender 90 and 110 models, the Widebody 2.0 is also offered as part of the brand’s Series II Conversions through its official dealer network. For all that are installed via other methods, the Chelsea Truck Company recommends glueing/bonding said wide-track arches to the body.
