Renault has confirmed the name of its all-new C-segment SUV. It will henceforth be referred to as the Boreal, and the French automaker hopes it will accelerate its international expansion under the brand’s International Game Plan 2027. The SUV has been designed specifically for markets outside of Europe and will officially debut in Brazil in the coming months, marking a major step in the brand’s upscale product strategy.

This Latin America arrival will precede the arrival of 70 global markets—including regions across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Ironically, the Renault Boreal will not be coming to Europe or its native France. This aligns with the aforementioned global ambitions that will have Renault produce vehicles that are market-specific, similar to the Kwid or Sandero.

But it does retain some of that French stil. According to the automaker, the name “Boreal” draws on French roots and evokes imagery of sweeping landscapes and elemental force. Renault further added that the poetic Boreal branding is appropriate since it is being positioned as a stylish and tech-laden SUV aimed at upwardly mobile buyers in emerging markets. Renault describes it as a “high-tech head-turner” with status, comfort and modernity at its core.

The Boreal will be built on the Renault Group’s modular CMF platform, which also underpins models like the Dacia Duster and Renault Austral, and while specific details on styling and powertrains remain under wraps, it is expected to bear some ominous presence alluding to its likely off-road-ready stature.

Moving to South Africa, Renault holds quite a chunk of market share and has carved out its own in the lifestyle and off-road segment thanks to the Kiger and Duster. Thus, the Boreal could slot into a growing appetite for aspirational yet attainable SUVs, though local availability has not been confirmed, but is almost certain. The more niche Koleos will likely remain too, since it serves in a larger, more premium segment.

Renault promises a full unveiling soon, with launch markets kicking off in Latin America before global rollout.
