Spotted during a testing stint in Southeast Asia, the world was given a preview of what the next-generation Hilux would likely look like. While the heavy camouflage hid finer details, the visible design elements hinted at a bolder and more modern evolution rather than just a simple update. Kolesa.ru has become a well-known platform for sharing digital renderings which often provide an accurate preview of what is to come and the available resources and spy shots have yielded these renders.

One of the biggest changes is the redesigned front fascia. A bold new grille—bearing some resemblance to Mitsubishi models—dominates the front end, flanked by sleek LED daytime running lights. The main headlamp clusters sit on either side and are separate to the DRLs, giving the Hilux a sharper and more aggressive look. These renders show the Hilux wearing a modern refresh as well, with new LED taillights and squared-off fenders adding to its muscular stance.
Underneath, Toyota seems to be sticking with its IMV platform, now referred to as IMV-0. This suggests an evolutionary rather than revolutionary approach, likely bringing improved chassis rigidity, better ride quality, and enhanced off-road capability. However, Toyota could borrow elements from the TNGA-F platform—particularly in the suspension—to improve handling and refinement.
Electrification is almost a given considering the position of this global product. The mild-hybrid system currently offered in the Hilux pairs the familiar 2.8-litre turbodiesel with a 48V system, improving fuel efficiency and adding a slight power boost. This could be offered in the new model but early rumours point towards a plug-in hybrid being in the pipeline, considering rival brands are exploring similar tech in the bakkie segment. While a fully electric Hilux seems unlikely in the short term, Toyota’s broader EV strategy makes it a possibility further down the line.

Inside, the Hilux is expected to receive a major tech upgrade. A larger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone integration, digital driver displays, and improved driver-assistance features are all likely.
