Right on cue for the voting day for this year’s Top 12 Best Buys winners, the announcement by Naamsa that Suzuki Auto South Africa had officially claimed second place on the list of best-selling automotive brands in SA for the first month of 2025 placed an exclamation mark against this brand’s already secured victory in this category.
A proud Japanese brand currently reaping the rewards of offering the increasingly budget-sensitive South African market a portfolio of characterful, well-equipped, efficient and, most importantly, affordable products, Suzuki’s steady climb towards the summit of the monthly sales charts has been impressive. From humble beginnings on returning to the South African market in 2008, the brand currently offers twelve passenger car products priced below R550 000 via 101 dealerships in South Africa. Alongside its commercial vehicles, motorcycles and marine department, this does not factor in several Toyota-badged passenger vehicles that exist via the working relationship between these brands.

Starting with the quirky S-Presso at R178 900, the diverse modern Suzuki range includes Celerio and Ignis city cars and grows to include the modern Swift, Baleno and raised ride height Fronx. While the DZire sedan and Ertiga MPV cater largely to the fleet market, young families have options in the XL6 and Grand Vitara.
Key to Suzuki Auto’s recent success has been the introduction of the all-new Swift range, at pricing which makes this otherwise impressive product impossible to ignore for first-time buyers, students, young families and, indeed, fleet companies, including hire car firms. This vehicle’s underpinnings will also likely spawn a new Swift Sport derivative, the current version of which is lauded as a compelling entry point into the world of the hot hatch.

In 2025, Suzuki Auto South Africa will continue as a headline sponsor of the Simola Hillclimb event while finalising plans for a follow-up to its hugely successful inaugural Jimny Gathering. A pivotal product within the brand’s portfolio – available as a 5-door since 2023 – the venerable Jimny continues to gain popularity for its quirky styling, fun-loving character and enviable off-roading ability.
“Suzuki Auto South Africa would like to congratulate its dealer network for a job well done as these record-setting figures would not have been achieved without them. We would also like to thank our customer base – old and new – for putting so much faith in our products. Their enthusiasm drives us to continue offering an affordable, value-for-money motoring experience built on Japanese quality,” says Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.
