Bespoke Phantom Goldfinger Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Rolls-Royce Phantom

Rolls-Royce marked 100 years of its Phantom nameplate at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, unveiling a unique, film-inspired version called the Phantom Goldfinger.

This heavily customised Phantom Extended was built for a private client with a clear affinity for James Bond, drawing direct inspiration from the 1964 film Goldfinger. Specifically, it references the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville driven by the movie’s villain, Auric Goldfinger. The original film car was also on display at the event.

Unlike the classic model, the new Phantom Goldfinger features gold trim crafted from 18- and 24-carat gold, along with design elements linked to the film’s characters and locations. Rolls-Royce has not disclosed exact specifications, emphasising that the car’s appeal lies more in its visual drama than its performance figures. While first privately unveiled in 2024 to coincide with the movie’s 60th anniversary, this marked its public debut.

Villa d’Este, one of Europe’s most exclusive Concours events, provided a fitting backdrop for the Phantom’s centenary. Beyond the Goldfinger edition, Rolls-Royce also presented a series of artworks created by its in-house design team at Goodwood. Each piece illustrated a different Phantom generation, highlighting the car’s evolution in style and cultural significance over the past century.

A pristine Phantom V in the event’s opening parade was also present and looked back on the 1960s-era and distinguished owners like John Lennon and Queen Elizabeth II. While Rolls-Royce did not use the occasion to preview future technology or announce a next-generation model, their presence at Villa d’Este clearly celebrated the Phantom’s heritage. With electrification on the horizon — the next Phantom is anticipated to be fully electric — this event felt like a closing chapter for the V12 era.
